God, you're scraping the barrel there (without much productive success).

The man who avoided jail was a mentally-ill pedestrian (there no suggestion
anywhere in the article of his being either a cyclist or a driver) who:

"... pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, three counts of battery and
three of damaging property at Croydon Crown Court on May 6....".

Ignoring the all-too-typical journalistic lapse in language which might lead
the reader to suppose that the offences all took place at Croydon Crown
Court, the defendant is acknowledged as having been very ill at the time. As
the judge said:

“I accept for sentencing purposes that you were ill at the time that you
committed these offences, seriously ill. ...

“Yours is a fairly deep-seated problem and it’s going to take time to resolve.”

So, on reviewing the evidence (assuming you ever actually viewed it with any
real comprehension in the first place), do you still think that this case was
analogous to the sort of case ["dog bites man"] often cited by other posters
from time to time and was suitable as a stick with which to defend cyclists
(or even drivers)?

would he have been a brave attacker if he had escaped by bicycle? or should
he have stayed with his victim? You do have strange ideas.

This is a story of a thug out looking for someone to mug, the first most
feasible victim was a cyclist. I expect that if the cyclist had been in a
car the attack would not have ocurred, so once again a cycle is to blame,
clearly in this case it was an unsafe mode of transport for the conditions
(late at night, dark and probably fairly deserted.)
