Angry cyclist leaves pregnant woman distressed after confrontationover Highway Code

More ignorant drivers corrected.
QUOTE:
An angry cyclist left a pregnant young woman distressed after a confrontation over the Highway Code.

He was accused of breaching the code by cycling two abreast “in the middle” of a Cleethorpes road - although this is actually allowed.

The incident was caught on camera and shared more than 600 times on social media - and it's his behaviour that has annoyed viewers.

In the 20-second clip, the cyclist leans towards the car window before calling the pregnant woman a “f***ing stupid c***”.

It is understood the driver sounded their horn at the cyclists for “holding cars up”.

The cyclist reportedly “followed the car” into Cleethorpes Country Park and launched into a “very aggressive” attack.

The video, shared publicly on social media, was uploaded with an appeal to trace the cyclist.

It reads: “Does anyone know this man please?

“Was in the middle of the road, two people.

“Then when bibbed at because was holding cars up, he was throwing up hand signals.

“Deliberately cycled slower and was all over the road then followed the car and very violent and aggressive.”

It has been claimed the cyclist scratched and dented the car along its side and on its boot after the recording ended.

It continues: “After the video, he proceeded to attack the vehicle and has left multiple scratches and dents along the boot and side.

“My friend is pregnant and very distressed now because of this man.”

According to the Highway Code, cyclists can ride in the centre of the lane, otherwise known as in ‘primary position’. This can deter unsafe passes, particularly on slower urban roads.

Section 66 states cyclists should not ride more than two abreast. However this is an advisory rule and there is no law in place preventing them from doing so.

Despite this, social media users say there was “no need to speak to her like that”.

One user said: “While the guy’s behaviour is completely disgusting, he is correct.

“We are allowed in the middle of the roads and are allowed to cycle two wide.
Section 66 of the Highway Code states cyclists should not ride more than two abreast. However this is an advisory rule and there is no law in place preventing them from doing so.

“You have to treat cyclists just like you would a motorbike or another car.”

Another user said: “There is no need for him to be so arrogant about it. It gives cyclists a bad reputation.”

Others have compared him to Ronnie Pickering who went viral after arguing with a moped rider in which he infamously shouted: “Do you know who I am?”, replying "Ronnie Pickering" to the bewildered rider, who responded with "Who?".

When summing up the incident, one user said: “Regardless of who is right and who is wrong, there is no need for such aggression and disgusting language.

“As for damaging the car, how can that be justified?”

It is time Police clamped down on illegal use of the horn. It is to warn other road users of your presence and only that. Being pregnant is no excuse.

Being stupid and arrogant is no excuse for obstructing the highway,
using insulting and abusive language and threatening violence (to
another vulnerable woman, note). It is also no excuse for committing
criminal damage.

Someone will "dob him in", surely?

Agreed.
In my 40 plus years of driving, I have NEVER felt the need to sound my horn at a cyclist for any reason, but idiot car drivers, on their mobiles, reversing blind out of driveways and supermarket parking places - 100's of times.

How objective and fair-minded you aren't.

It's amazing how drivers have the idea that they are invisible and silent.

“As for damaging the car, how can that be justified?”

For causing hearing damage.

It's also amazing how many drivers haven't seen cyclists glancing into
the bikes' rear-view mirrors to properly take in a view of the traffic
bulding behind them.

Not quite right in the head, are you?

They make an excellent job of “holding cars up” all by themselves, which they don't seem to mind as they put up with it all the time.

See this - not a cyclist in sight.

A few years ago, I was walking along a road where a taxi had stopped to
let people sort themselves out. This was after a left turn, which an
approaching driver wanted to turn into. Except that it was blocked by a
vehicle behind the taxi. Which created gridlock.

In the queue behind the taxi, there was a BMW with open windows with the
impatient driver sitting on the horn (someone of Asian descent,
unsurprisingly, but it's an observation that isn't PC these days, so
let's assume I haven't mentioned it).

Anyway, as I walked past I shouted "oh do stop that dreadful noise".
After walking further on, the taxi moved and cleared the way. The BMW
driver moved his car forward and stopped to threaten me with "do you
want to get beaten up" or words to that effect. I replied "ok, go on
then". My reply didn't compute so he drove off. Yes, it is strange how
after his impatience he was prepared to try a show of force. It must
have cost him at least 10 seconds.
