Black Hill youths, Jack Zielinski, 12, and Lachie Jolly, 14, often ride in the mountain biking park and said the trails are popular, especially during school holidays.

In talking about the accident, they said, “He was on the step-down and sort of flipped over on his hip and went down and then he went over the handlebars and landed on his back.

“His leg was really twisted over.”

The boys said the ambulance was called and “then the firies with a stretcher … to help lift him up.”

Asked if it made them worried about biking on the trails, they said “Yeah … a bit” and that both had suffered broken bones from previous falls near the same spot.

Jack said he’d broken his collar bone in an accident on the same track a couple of months ago.

“I had to call the ambulance for him after he went over the handle bars,” Lachie said.

Undaunted though, both youths said they will continue biking on the Black Hill trails.

A friend of the injured boy has called on riders and spectators in the park to keep off the tracks and trails while mountain bikers are riding there, to avoid accidents in the future.
