Has there ever been a Paris-Roubaix like this where everyone in the
lead group crashed themselves out of contention?

We had a beginning woman on my team who won a race like that. She
said there were about 10 woman in the pack and most crashed near the
end on some potholes, so she won.

Like I said, there were about 10 beginning women in the pack and most
crashed.

It happened in 1929 - more or less. A few miles before the finish there were
four men in the lead group. One of them had a flat, so there were only
three: Ronsse, Déolet and Meunier, all of them the same team (like the Mapei
in 1996). The winner should have been Ronsse (the Museeuw of 1929), but
crashed at the velodrome, taking out Déolet as well. So the winner was
Meunier, the only important victory in his career.

Strangest finish that I ever saw (and unfortunately had to help
untangle) was a wide sprint near Eleanor Roosevelt high school near
DC, when almost the entire sprint field was wiped out in the last
hundred meters. I remember Bobby Philips getting third (if memory is
any good) when he thought he was rolling around for an out of place
finish. Just no one left in front.

Some guy said he saw it coming from four bikes to the right and
couldn't do a thing about it, with it moving laterally through the ten
across field from the far curb. People behind couldn't find spaces to
ride to. Like the bad joke of handing out places by checking the
bodies, starting from front to back.
