Orange County (NY) "Country Roads" Bicycle Tour
The Country Roads Bicycle Tour returns Sunday, September 10, offering
choice routes on uncrowded roads through the varied landscape of Orange County, in New York's Hudson Valley. The routes range in style from a ten-mile circuit for children and once-in-a-while riders, to a challenging metric century through rolling farmland and over forested ridges. All rides begin and end at Warwick High School in Warwick, New York. The tour is sponsored by the Orange County Bicycle Club (OCBC). Registration fees cover route plans, mechanical support, rest stops, banquet, entertainment, and a pair of cycling socks. Registration is $35 in advance, $40 on the day of the event, and $15 for children under 12. With the Country Roads Tour, the Orange County Bicycle Club remembers its friend Frank Colace, who died last year. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will benefit the National Kidney Foundation in Frank's memory. Proceeds will also benefit the Orange County Land Trust (an organization dedicated to preserving open space) and the Sanctuary for Animals (an animal rescue farm in Orange County). Country Roads is considered one of the premier bicycle events of its kind in the Northeast. In past years, it has attracted 1,200 to 1,600 participants.
