Not sure how many knew my uncle but he was a fixture at many bike shows around the country since the 1970s selling hand-made bicycle mirrors that he had been making since the 1950s. He passed away on August 18th, 2012. There is a facebook memorial page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Chuck...34695303248672 for anyone that remembers him.

Is that a Frank Gehry [1] building in the background?

[1] Not a fan.

Is the Playboy article online someplace? Never seen it, but Chuck
mentioned it at his table at an invitational ride I was at about 12
years ago.

I remember him well. What a unique guy! I remember his old VW van, his
pedal-powered grinder, his astonishing derailleurs. I never made it to
his bike shop, unfortunately. I imagine it was a very interesting place.

Well if you get a chance, drop a comment at the site. Would mean a lot to my cousins and his wife Alma. Thanks for remembering! I never caught the bicycling bug but whenever he came to visit we would map out traffic safe routes for him to get around Eastern PA with his recumbant bike.

The family would always collect plastic bottles of whatever color he needed (blue being very popular) for him to melt down and make. The first mirror he made me was from a bottle cap with engravings on the outside and a bent bicycle spoke to keep it attached to my baseball cap.
