forget about banning bikes how about banning motorizeds frst?
the vast majority of environmental destruction at least in the soutwest
deserts is from motorized off-road vehicles (and horses) not from bikes-particularly the fragile topsoil there. i think we should start there...and adding to that how about Edward Abbey's great idea for our national parks. ie Yosemite. put a gate at the front and give everyone a bike to ride or offer a shuttle to the campground and use the shuttles for transporting camping gear, food etc. have the rangers who used to direct traffic drive the shuttles. and any americanus slobbicus who refuses to leave their vehicle wouldnt be able to enjoy the scenery. that would do a lot more to save our wildlands than banning bikes. |

Yes, I always think about the destruction by ATVs when I see those posts worrying about wide tire bikes. |
