Hot of the press: Zabel leaves T-Mobile

Told this just in an interview (and press conference).
Doesn't say where he is headed.

To a better team, no doubt

Phonak?
Gerolsteiner?

Everyone on T-Mobile eventually wastes their opportunities working for
the ever fading chances of Jan winning another tour.

That's interesting news for sure considering the offer that was
reported he had for after he finished racing with the team too. Can't
say I blame him though.

Didn't even think of Gerolsteiner where he'd be back with his friend
Udo Bolts. I'd bet they'd love to have him.

He said it was not about the money ...
And when the interviewer asked about his plans "Maybe you'd target
another green jersey [...]" he said something like "You're not too far
off.".
After Gerolsteiner "lost" Hondo, it might be a good fit.

Rumor is he's going to Domina Vacanze.

Dumbass -

Yep. He knows he could have won it this year.

Circumstances like this year, where most of the top guys took
themselves out of contention, don't happen that often, and he knows he
has only a few years left. Can't blame him for leaving.

Maybe he's decided being involved with T-Mobile after he
stops isn't such a good deal after all.

Is the internal structure of T-Mobile likely to change
with Godefroot's retirement?

I would bet on Gerolsteiner. They're beginning to put together a pretty
first class team. You know what they really need is a DS like that 'other'
German sprinter that worked so long in Spain. He seemed a great deal smarter
than most racers.

I've given up even trying to predict what the hell they are going to
do. I'm alos sure that if I was still there they wouldn't be saying
much either. The team really was a closed world even if you knew team
members. Only the people really on the inside have any idea what's
going on.
My guess is not much changes, but I'm betting that the budget shrinks
quite a bit. I really have doubts about the teams future given
T-Mobile's finances, but we'll see.
