Shimano Ultegra 6500 & Dura-Ace Triple Compatibility

Hi Guys:

Will a Shimano 7703 Triple crankset work with Shimano 6603 shifters? I
currently have my bike setup with an ultegra triple but I have replaced
the middle chainring with a 39t instead of the 42t. The shifting is
clean, however I have to trim when in the middle chainring, otherwise
the chain rubs on the inner plate of the of the front derailleur cage.

Will using the 7703 aleviate this problem?

Thanks,
Claude

What front derailleur are you using? Try the cheapest alternative, a
7703 front derailleur as it was designed for use with a 39t. That
should do more for your problem than changing STI shifters!

Yup,

Definitely using the 7703 triple front derailleur. Orignially tried
with with the 6503 front derailleur and got no where.

Wouldn't change the shifters, but was considering changing the crankset
to the 7703.

Thanks,
Claude

This is what I think may happen when we put the 39t ring onto your
bike. I think that I have a triple front derailleur that will work.

Yes but may need a DA front der as the rings are 53-39-30 rather than
the ultegra 52-42-30

Nope. The rubbing and trim requirement will be the same.

Thanks,
Claude

I'm using an Ultegra FD with DA triple crankset (which replaced an Ultegra);
no discernable difference in shifting performance.

replaced the middle chainring with a 39t instead of the 42t. The
shifting is clean, however I have to trim when in the middle

Becomes second nature...especially with Neil along nagging about it!

:-P
