Yet another motorist hospitalises cyclists and causes road closure.

40 minute road closure? Motorists here complain bitterly if Critical
Mass holds cars up for two or three minutes. Motorists are obviously
their own worst enemy as well as an enemy of cyclists.

"A cyclist is in a critical condition after the tandem he was riding
was in collision with a car in Blackpool.

The 54-year-old man was riding along Preston New Road with his son
when the crash happened on Thursday afternoon.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Royal Preston
Hospital for emergency surgery. His 25-year-old son suffered minor
injuries.

Police believe the collision happened when the car turned left into a
slip road and have appealed for witnesses.

The road was closed for about 40 minutes after the collision."

Interesting how you try to compare an accidental unplanned event with a
deliberate planned event.

There are cycle lanes on the footpath all the way down Preston New Road.
I used to live in Blackpool.

Everybody knows that true psycholists would rather die (literally)
than use a marked cycle path, aka farcility.

Just had a look with Google Street car and I failed to find one
shared use sign, maybe they've been removed since you lived there, or
maybe after Google vistied? Certainly the council cycle map fails to
mention them. For example this junction would have to have end of
shared use, start of share use, and maybe a cyclists dismount sign.

There are some advisory cycle lanes, which are on the council map

There are certainly some parts of on road cycle lanes, which run
out at junctions.

Why? Why do you say junctions need to have end of shared use and
start of shared use?

Here is a selection of examples where the path is definitely shared
use:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...299.23,,0,10.1

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...1,34.7 1,,0,5

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...5. 22,,0,5.87

As shown by the signs and markings at some (but not all) of the
junctions along the stretch of road:
