So now, in addition to helmets, high-viz clothing, disc brakes and
blinding daytime running lights, we need...

RADAR!

Anything less is just not safe any more. Danger! Danger!

It's a deep state conspiracy to scare all cyclists off the road and put us
all safely in our basements on Zwift, where we belong.

Radar is just part of it. The article promotes a parade of consumer items from helmets to disc brakes to DRLs to radar -- and of course, a Garmin unit to tie it all together. The whole thing smells like an infomercial.

The opening photo is of a bike accident in Toronto, presumably one that could have been prevented by radar. I searched the picture and got this story: https://www.cp24.com/news/cyclist-st...ital-1.3729720

The rider somehow “'came off' his bike and came into contact with a truck travelling in the same direction." So, he fell off his bike in front of a truck? I don't need radar to tell me not to do that. Could you imagine riding with radar in dense downtown traffic? Ridiculous. I think not riding with headphones would produce ten-times the safety benefit.

They really need to integrate a GoPro like camera into the tail light as
well.

It's been done, but I can't remember the product name.

I am guessing the biker came off his bike because the truck travelling in the same direction hit him from behind. In the two bike-car accidents I have been involved in, I came off the bike after the car hit me. Its a common occurrence. Maybe just random that he fell in front of the truck. He could have fallen to the side of the truck too.

I have no idea if radar would have helped in this situation. Fighter airplanes have radars. And the radar tells the pilot if a plane or missile is headed towards them. But the radar does not stop the bullets or missiles from hitting them. Radar just tells the pilot something is in the area that is coming towards them. With radar on a bike, it would just tell you a car is coming up behind or to the side of you. Doesn't say the car is going to hit you. I have a mirror that tells me if a car is coming up behind me. Antiquated radar. But the mirror does not tell me if the car is going to run me over.

Look at the video (both clips). He came off his bike and then was run-over by the truck, which was a lane over to rider's left. The accident site is two lanes with the right lane marked for bikes. The bike was not run over, but the front wheel looks like it was taco'd, so part of the wheel might have been run over. I'm pretty sure a flasher with "radar" would not have changed the outcome.

So let's say he had radar, meaning that he was staring at his Garmin head unit watching a dot traveling towards him -- in a congested area. And according to a supporter, the Garmin radar is "totally useless in the city." https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=Bv6t57LKg7I -- but at least he would have had something to look at while getting mowed down.

And for SMS, the video light product is the Cycliq Fly. https://cycliq.com/bike-cameras/fly6ce/ My son gets half-off on pro deal. I'm going to get one so my estate can sue, assuming the camera is not destroyed in the massive rear-end collision I've been avoiding for the last 50 years.

I'm spending the day working on ways in which I can be paranoid while riding my bike. Then I'm going out for a ride, without so much as a cyclometer. I will wear my helmet.

Even if the camera is destroyed, often the SD memory card survives, like 80% of the time.

Perhaps, a helmet camera like this:
https://www.studiobinder.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/How-to-make-the-best-GoPro-videos-for-your-Brand-GoPro-Accessories.jpg
Or, maybe a bicycle helmet with both front and rear facing cameras:

Or, maybe all 360 degrees:
