Pedestrian taken to hospital after cyclist hit and run in Oxfordshire

A 66-YEAR-OLD woman was involved in a cyclist ‘hit and run’ leaving her with head and neck injuries.

Whilst walking down Cook Lane in North Stoke at around 11.30am on Friday September 4, Jeanette Porrett was ‘struck’ by a speeding cyclist who left her lying in the road with head and neck injuries. The police and ambulance crew attended and Mrs Porrett was taken to the JR Hospital.

Husband, David Porrett said: “I am struggling to believe the cold, callous way this cyclist behaved leaving my wife badly injured in the road. This incident was totally avoidable if this cyclist had been cycling in a sensible and considerate way.”

Thames Valley Police confirmed the cyclist did not stop and the pedestrian was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

An investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact police by calling 101 or making a report online quoting reference 43200276955.

Do you actually believe that only cyclists 'get away with everything'? You should keep abreast of news outside of Oxford. Only yesterday the national press reported how a driver received a 6 month suspended sentence for exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph and killing an innocent cyclist. I would call that 'getting away with everything'.

How are we defining speeding here? What's the speed limit there? Or is it just a throwaway comment?

It's odd isn't it how we talk about being hit by a cyclist but we never talk about being hit by a driver (always a car)? A little bit of bias against cyclists here?

Huge numbers of incidents where car drivers kill pedestrians could be avoided if people drove in a "sensible and considerate way" - and that includes not speeding, not being intoxicated and not being distracted by their mobile phone. But we don't go on about this as if those driving cars are some sort of demons, do we?

cyclist", there is another about a cyclist "cycling at the junction of
.... when he collided with [a] taxi". So what was the taxi driver's
involvement in this?

The rule of thumb is that to a cyclist, any pedestrian injured by a
cyclist - even on a footway - is the one at fault. Don't persist in
asking why, they just are, that's all.
