Got him! Driver found in France after attempted murder of cyclist

Well done to the police in nabbing the cowardly scum driver so soon after his collision.

QUOTE:
"A teenager has been detained by police in Paris and arrested on suspicion of ***attempted murder*** (EMPHASIS MINE) after a cyclist was left seriously injured following a hit-and-run on Mount Pleasant.

Police launched a manhunt to find a driver who “failed to stop” after colliding with a cyclist at the busy junction with Holderness Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives appealed for help from the public after the 43-year-old man was left hurt and police have now confirmed that a 19-year-old suspect has been apprehended in Paris after boarding a train to France overnight."

END QUOTE
Obviously more to come after he gets in front of the courts.

He's bound to get something for failing to stop after the crash. What's
the betting that he will get nothing for the standard of his driving
before the crash?

Nothing for "attempted murder" (if that charge is laid, obviously)?

The fact that the arrest was made on suspicion of that serious charge
(as opposed to CDBDD or CDBCD) seems to indicate that there was some
other dimension to the incident. Perhaps some previous contact between
the cyclist and the suspect.

If he is charged with, and tried for, murder, I doubt that there will
also be a Road Traffic Act offence on the charge sheet unless it is put
as an easy alternative for a jury to pick. But that would only happen if
CPS thought the attempt murder charge was iffy.

Erratum:
For "and tried for, murder", read "and tried for, attempted murder".

He is wanted for "attempted murder", so there must be someone who witnessed him DELIBERATELY driving at the cyclist, rather than merely an accident.

Otherwise, why would the criminal driver scarper to France if it was a simple RTA?

Also, he must be praying that the victim pulls through in hospital, I would assume, otherwise he will be in SERIOUS bother on a murder charge.

There could be all sorts of reasons behind it. I guess much depends on
whether they were known to each other before the event.

Look up 'punishment pass' on Youtube. Many drivers think they are entitled to use their vehicles as weapons because cyclists were not behaving in the way motorists think cyclists should behave.

I have long advocated these drivers should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder but society classes it as 'just a motoring offence'.

The reason CDBDD was introduced was because juries were unwilling to convict motorists of manslaughter for a motoring offence.

Agreed.

If a driver jumps a red light, kills someone while speeding, or after mounting a pavement, then these are usually viewed as "accidents", because, hey "everyone" speeds, drives on pavements or jumps lights, don't they?

The fact the driver scarpered to France to evade justice speaks volumes to me though.

Luckily, only a very few people are stupid enough to drive across a
continent in a vehicle with non-functioning vital safety-related
equipment such as windscreen wipers.

Yes, it doesn't sound as though the incident in question was a traffic
accident. If the police were bullish enough to issue an arrest warrant
for attempted murder, they must have evidence of prior acquaintance and
contact between the suspect and the supposed victim.

What a strange way to spell 'a helmet'

Because if the motorist had simply ran the victim over he could say "It was just a momentary lapse of concentration".
