It may be a little-known fact to you, but it is illegal to brake to a
stop on a motorway. The exception to that applies where failing to do
so will result in a collision with something in the vehicle's path.
Colliding with the vehicle in front is also (often) an offence.

What do you do?

Especially when you're on your pedal-cycle on the motorway (in order
to keep it on-topic).

It may come as a surprise to you that some of us drive cars as well.


I am well aware of that.

What is its particular relevance in uk.rec.cycling and in the context of
vehicles being forced to stop on motorways (even though it is illegal to
do so without that force-majeure)?
