Mountain-biker, 12, rescued in Upper Hutt

Last updated 08:37 04/04/2012

A 12-year-old girl who broke her leg mountain-biking in a remote
forestry area in Upper Hutt was rescued by four-wheel-drive ambulance
last night.

Wellington Free Ambulance Rescue said it was alerted to the accident
in the Blue Mountains area at 6.30pm.

The girl had suffered a broken leg when she fell from her bike about
1km from the nearest road-end.

Wellington Free Ambulance team leader rescue Aaron Hartle said the
accident happened in a fairly remote area.
''It was a wet, muddy, unsealed four wheel drive track, the guys had
to go up a tricky side road to get access.''

The girl was treated at the scene and driven to a waiting road
ambulance and then transferred to hospital to be assessed.
