It is almost unbelieveable how people can live so insulated. The
reason that you don't see Americans working these jobs is because
there is cheap illegal alien laborers who generally do a better job
and complain less.

If they weren't there you'd be surprised at how many Americans would
be willing to do the work.



Maybe in your area. Out here illegals aren't a real big problem. The farms have
actually had to step up their migrant worker programs though because the area
kids who used to want the work wont do it anymore. They got together and built
what is basically a set of military barracks, bought a bunch of busses, set up
programs with the local Health Center and found volunteer english tutors to
help out. They pay to fly people who want to work from Haiti and the Dominican
Republic. Most of them stay from May through Oct. and quite a few have been
coming for decades. Some are even 2nd generation.
It used to be almost all tobacco, but that's pretty much gone so now it's
market vegetables.
Our farmers have figured out that works better here to work within the system
and take good care of the people they get.
