Default Mt Tamalpais summit route (road bike)

Hi-

I am loking for a suggested loop route that includes a climb to the
summit of Mt. Tam. I am looking for something in the vicinity of 30-40
miles (with the requisite amoutn of climbing).

Try the Bolinas-Fairfax road. No traffic of note. As I recall
it's about a 2,000 ft climb from hwy 1 to the intersection with
Ridgecrest at the top. From there you can do some ridge-running along
Ridgecrest with spectacular views of the ocean to Pan Toll
Road, which is at the intersection to the summit road.
From there you can come back down to Highway 1 via Panoramic
or along Panoramic to Muir Woods, then ride back to
Bolinas-Fairfax on 1. Highway one has some traffic but
it's not too bad.

BTW, you can also drop down the far side of Bolinas-Fairfax
to a resivoir. That road crosses a dam and follows the
shoreline for a while, before climbing back up to the
ridge above Fairfax.

It's longer than you're interested in, but one of my favorite
rides used to be to go out Lucas Valley Road in San Rafael
to Pt Reyes Station, south on Hwy 1 to Bolinas-Fairfax,
up that to Ridgcrest, up to the summit, then back down
to Bolinas-Fairfax, down the east side to the dam, and
back to Fairfax, San Anselmo, and San Rafael. The Hwy 1
traffic was very reasonable in that section and the only
built-up portions were in San Rafael.
