In California they just put a cone on there or slop some
asphalt slurry in there, roll the truck across it a
few times
and call it a day.

"Your tax Dollars at work"

And it's a LOT of tax dollars to do paving. Check your
PCI.

Right, but they absolutely had to build a very costly
nonsensical mural
next to Hwy 50 to make our village appear like El Dorado
hills,
which it can never do. Then they shoo'd away Trader
Joe's which
would have gushed beaucoup tax dollars into the local
coffers.
Tax dollars which now flow into Folsom, from which they
build
bike paths and maintain road, which consequently are in
much
better shape than ours.

Grocery stores are not big revenue generators because
there is no
sales tax on food. With Trader Joe's there is revenue
from alcohol
sales, carbonated beverages, and a few sundry items, but
that's
about it.

Booze is a major chunk of their sales. They are famous for
having specialty beers and also their wine prices are good.
Also, it's not just abour sales taxes. There would have been
sizeable property taxes had they allowed them to build.

There are smart community leaders and then there are not
so smart
ones.

Cal Trans is not "shooing away" Trader Joes. The state is
not making
local land-use decisions. Take your complaints to the
Cameron Park
CSD Board of Directors.

That is exactly the board I meant.

Also, Trader Joes probably took one look at your community
and
decided it could make more money in a larger population
area, e.g.
Folsom -- maybe even pick-up customers from the outskirts
of Sacto.

Nope. They were seriously trying to come here because there
is a good market for their stuff. Affluent residents with a
serious taste for specialty items. People who have no
problem to plunk down $8 for a little piece of brie as long
as it's the real deal from France.

You complain about all the idiots in government, yet you
do nothing.

Not true. I've been at CSD sessions. For other reasons but
the results weren't better. Then I organized a little
"resistance" and with a good dose of media exposure we got
things done. The hard way.

The first thing you could do is figure out which
government deserves
all your carping. Start with looking at local transportation
funding. Get on the CSD Board. Make Cameron Park Great
Again! SMS
has at least made himself part of the "deep state" of
Cupertino.

Road conditions are mostly in the hands of DOT. Last year
they increased car taxes and gas taxes to "fix the roads".
Noticeable results so far? Zero.

If you look at subsidiarity as Jay suggests I think you'll
find your county and township road departments maintain and
plow and patch all the not-incorporated roadways with
various funding sources.

In some counties west of here, you can clearly see the
township lines by the road conditions after a snow while
traveling on the same road.
