Default Once a railway, soon to be a bike trail

Updated: Thursday, March 6 2014, 06:03 PM EST GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio
(Josh Knight) -- The trains and tracks are long gone and in their
place will soon be space for biking and hiking. The first phase for a
new bike trail is moving forward as trustees in Green Township get
closer to closing a deal to buy some property. The area has changed a
lot over the last 30 years. Back then there was a giant railroad
trestle at one intersection and now all that is about to change. It
will be another way to get around, but this time, it will require some
exercise and maybe a nice pair of tennis shoes. The busy intersection
of Glenway and Race in Greenship Township is now the proud owner of a
stretch of land that will one day be a biking and fitness trail. You
don't see much now, mostly just grassy fields, but that isn't quieting
buzz about the project. The trail will run along the same path as the
former C&O Railroad. It starts between Oakdale Elementry School and
Bridgetown Middleschool. The path will eventually run all the way to
Veterans Park. Right now, Green Township only owns the land for phase
one. But this bike path isn't all about another place to exercise, it
will also serve as economic development. While the township doesn't
own the land yet, phase two already has the hospitals excited. Of
course, this won't happen overnight, but it is something many people
are looking forward to. Follow Josh Knight on Twitter @joshknightwx
