Just wanted to make sure the desert cycling community is aware that the man who hit Lyle Rosser and Ray Moore in August 2003 will likely go to trial in February, 2005, in Joshua Tree. We hope the outcome will send a statement both about drinking and driving and the safety of and respect for cyclists. We will try to get this publicized with MADD and in the southern California media in February as the date draws near.

A drunken driver was arrested for investigation of murder in the death
of two bicyclists who were beginning a 30-day coast-to-coast trek,
authorities said Monday.
Raymond Moore, 72, of Anaheim, and Lyle Rosser Jr., 60, or Reseda, were
killed early Sunday on a desert highway near Joshua Tree National Park.
Police later booked Robert James Boyd, 29, of San Bernardino ......

Something positive...stranger rides to honor Ray & Lyle and completes
their dream.

A complete stranger came forward to Lyle and Ray's family in the weeks
after their death, and offered to dedicate a ride he was planning as a
memorial to Ray and Lyle. Ron Broyles completed the ride across country,
following Ray and Lyle's original route. He ended in hampton VA last
week. Please see
www.atrekeast2003.com for journals, pictures,
biographical info., articles, and more. It is truely inspirational.

I applaud Ron Broyles achievement.

Robert Boyd pleaded not guilty and has it preliminary hearing in San
Bernardino on October 23rd.
