I use a mountain bike for everyday travel to/from most local
merchants. The extra suspension of a mountain bike and street tires
allows moderate transitions off pavement to avoid pedestrians and
usage of sidewalks(Legal in Florida). It's been optimized for an
urban environment, with thinner street(1.5") tires, nose less seat,
and extra nighttime illumination.

No one is objecting to such use of a mountain bike. Mountain bikes also come
in handy on the hundreds of miles of gravel roads here in southern
Minnesota. What is objectionable is riding a mountain bike on a hiking
trail.

Uh, Mr. Ed Dolan, your buddy Mike Vandeman does object, considering his
history of posting negative stories about mountain bike use in urban
settings in the past.

Please pay attention.
