Default Several conspiracies that need breaking up are operated by bicyclists.

This rings a bell with me.

I've been saying for years that Google*, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft** and Amazon are conspiracies against the public weal and should be the subject of at least anti-trust actions and more fruitfully financial action that breaks them up and opens up their monopoly markets, each in their own section, to new entrants.

*The entire Board of Directors of Google should be in jail as thieves for their attempt to steal all the literary copyrights not just in the US but around the world. This is quite separate from their theft of private information for their own enrichment, for which they should also be in jail.

*Bill Gates was in fact investigated by Congress and cut a deal to take a back seat to avoid more wide-ranging action against his corporation. It was a limp conclusion to abuses of power that should have been regarded much more seriously than a slap on the wrist between good ole boys.

The linked short, crisp article does not only propose sound policy but is based on sound economics, straight out of Adam Smith. The reference to what finally brought down the criminal Al Capone is well taken. The unspoken comparison with the Boards of Google and Facebook and Twitter is apt.

What good is government if it can't keep the small businessman's opportunities open and assure the safety of his assets not only against fascist mobs but against corporate bullies? Laissez faire never meant monopoly!
