They used to be called Motor Assisted Pedal Cycles.
Then that got shortened to just "moped".

just bought
one myself and i am loving how much more enjoyable it is making my
commute to work. i feel like a kid again.

Good luck if you've got a moped that slips under the rules
governing motor vehicles. But it's not the same as cycling.
