This must be some other SI than the
unit system.

The French industrial standard is called AFNOR
(Association Française de Normalisation) and
there is no mention of "SI" on the Wikipedia
page. [1] But maybe it was once called SI?

I suppose any country, or even any
manufacturer, can come up with its own
incompatible gear and then call it a standard.
