That sure looks like they designed a course for Valverde.

Doping or not, a victory by a 39 year old would be unprecedented. It's a climbers race with fewer TTs to slow the Sky train. My son is convinced the course was picked to favor a Frenchman like Bardet or Alaphilippe or Thibaut Pinot. The mountain top finish on the Bastille Day stage is in Bardet's home town. Froome and Thomas get too much time in time trials and are not specialist climbers, but I still think they are strong contenders. My dark horse bet would be Quintana or a break out performance by one of the other Colombian climbing aces.

Pinot was very strong at the end of last season.
