Depends. In a lot of areas, the use of a gun to convince someone to
leave your property is within your rights. Actually firing it at
them, probably not.

Actually, certainly not, at least in urban areas. The laws of the land are
very harsh on those who try to protect their property (or themselves) if the
"victim" is outside the residence. That sort of takes the teeth out of the
threat of using the weapon (at least for those who are willing to challenge
the property owner). Sadly, those who are willing to trespass are just the
kinds of folks who will challenge the property owner.
