Heres two:

LeMond Poprad - sweet 853 frame at bargain price - can vouch for it as
I own one. Components are Sora, but 'cross components are consumables
anyway.

Another that caught my eye - Surly Crosscheck - frame about $395 -
I've seen full Ultegra bike in Excel catalog for $1195 or so - you
could put one together cheaper with 105, Sora, or used stuff.
