It may be a little-known fact to you, but it is illegal to brake to a
stop on a motorway. The exception to that applies where failing to do so
will result in a collision with something in the vehicle's path.
Colliding with the vehicle in front is also (often) an offence.

What do you do?

Especially when you're on your pedal-cycle on the motorway (in order to
keep it on-topic).

It may come as a surprise to you that some of us drive cars as well.
