The first time he wore his helmet

WHILE most children await the arrival of the Easter Bunny, Dion Palmer keeps
asking why his twin brother can't come back from heaven.
Three-year-old Brandon died on Thursday when he was accidentally hanged by
the strap of his bike helmet as he tried to climb through a window at his
Salisbury East home.

The "curious" toddler had climbed on to the washing machine and was
attempting to climb though the laundry window when his helmet became wedged.

Tragically, his safety-conscious parents had taught Brandon of the
importance of wearing a helmet when he rode his bike.

His devastated mother, Tanya McNamara, said yesterday it was the first time
Brandon had worn his new helmet.

"I drained the water tank and the fish pond so he wouldn't get into trouble
there, but he was a climber right from the moment he could walk," she said.

"I always told the kids they can't go on their bikes without their helmet.

"You think they are going to fall off their bikes and hit their heads, you
never think anything like this could happen."

Brandon's grieving parents, twin brother and sisters Eliza, 5, and Willow,
2, are now wondering how they will find the strength to continue without
their "mischievous but lovable trouble-maker".

"Dion keeps saying he wants him to come back from heaven. I don't think he
really understands what has happened," Ms McNamara said.

"He loved his twin brother so much. They always looked out for one another
and they were so close, they did everything together. He was mischievous,
fun and he was always on the go.

"He was also so doting of his little sister, Willow, always trying to
protect her. I just wish I heard something and there was more I could have
done."
