With firewire its as simple as plugging it in, going to the capture
function of whatever program youre running and start capturing the
tape.

If you are trying to capture from usb or are recording onto the sd
card, then forget that habit and keep it to the tape and firewire, cause
then
its a direct, non-compressed transfer.

Also, its usually not the cameras, cable, or programs fault. If youre
handling high res video like 1080 or higher, youre going to need a
computer
with specs good enough to not lag up, otherwise your program will
crash, youll get skipped frames, or many other problems.
