According to this article http://www.bmj.com/content/341/bmj.c6801 the
mass of the bike makes negligible difference to the journey time. The
article is a little tongue-in-cheek, but the author seems to have
conducted his study very diligently.

Full article is he http://www.bmj.com/content/341/bmj.c6801.full.pdf

Mucho mucho thanks for those links. Some of the responses seemed so very
serious and well thought thru - with equations and the lot whilst others
were just simply hilarious and perversely, just as well thought thru!
I have just read the first few but I am gonna see how much I can plough
thru.

Make my efforts seems so paltry and, quite frankly, boring
