Default TdF newbie Question (Potential Spoiler)

LA is a minute (give or take) ahead. Is that a lot or a little in TdF terms?

Cheers

Greg Lemond beat Laurent Fignon by a matter of seconds after 3 weeks which
it has been suggested was gained by him wearing an aero h*lmet while
ponytailed Fignon was too vain to wear one.
Fignon suffered male pattern baldness later on but kept his ponytail, last
seen sunbathing in a thong with Mr. Stringfellow. (Not really).

Pretty normal for the first week. The differences only come from the
prologue and TTT. The other stages are there for the sprinters, who
usually have no hope of winning on GC.

"But the English-speakers had their hands back on the yellow jersey the
following year - in the most dramatic of circumstances.

A resurgent Fignon held the race lead going into the final stage in Paris,
and a third Tour win, six years after his first, looked reasonably certain.

Certainly the Parisien did not expect to lose 50 seconds in a short 24km
time trial through his own city, despite saddle sores.

But Lemond began an aerodynamic revolution on the banks of the Seine, using
auro bars and a low profile bike to win the Tour by an incredible eight
seconds."

End of first week. They did their first serious climb today. It's the
climbs over the next ten days where the time gaps will seriously open
up, and if today is any indicator then there are serious questions about
Discovery Channel's ability to face the challenge this year, shich could
be interesting.

X-no-archive: No, I'm not *that* naive.
