I'm not "you people" so if you're that angry about something else
that's bothering you, I can't help you. I'm not a cabal of
international mustachioed bike swindlers, I'm one guy with a bike to
sell. Addressing me like I'm some sort of front for a conspiracy makes
you appear as if you're just posturing for an audience.

My gravest appologies if I misunderstand you. However, asking $5,500 for a
bicycle that could be bought for $150 most places does put rather a shine on
your motives.

Motives? It's pretty clear: he wants to get some money for an old bike
he has sitting around. If somebody wants to pay his asking price, it's
no skin off your nose. As long as the bike actually exists and he
delivers it to a person who pays him an agreed-upon amount of money,
then it's no scam. If you want the bike but don't like the price, then
make an offer.

It's really that simple, and I don't seen any indication of scam, just a
high-priced used bike. Whether it's over-priced or fairly-priced, I
don't know, and don't really care since I'm not interested in it...

The OP defined the bike as "Classic Italian Mountain Racing Bike", "One of
the first ever mountain bikes", and "a piece of Italian racing history".
Classic and history are both are subjective terms but imply something of
significance. One of the first ever mountain bikes? Prove it. Like Tom, I
question that this bike's heritage qualifies for the description given.
Thus, despite an assumption that someone willing to make payment of $5500
should know what he's buying, given the skepticism shown by several posters
there is plausibility that one would be scammed by paying the suggested
amount if they were to rely purely on the description of the bike.

This thread shows that people are getting cabin fever.
