Presta to schrader converter

This may be closer to what you use. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/pumps/pl...resta-adaptor/ The problem with this one is it requires a screw on connection for the pump. There isn't enough room for a push on pump connection. One could add a presta extender as a work around. This is really a Schrader to Woods adapter, despite what's on the website. I bought the wrong tube with a Presta valve instead of Schrader, so I decided to keep it. To fill the tube I had to unscrew it, screw on the hose and pump it up. Then unscrew hose while air is coming out and then tighten the screw. Is that the correct procedure? The Schrader valve loses very little air in the filling process. Andy Andy |

Just to clarify, you're looking for an adapter to replace a tube which doesn't fit the pump you just bought rather than replacing the SV tube with a PV tube which does fit your pump, and matches the other wheel, at roughly the same cost as the adapter. Andy Andy I suspect that the pump fitting is designed for a Woods valve, which has the same thread but no screw to loosen before and tighten after inflation. Most presta pump heads use a push on connector. The screw on connector for a Presta valve is much longer than the screw on connector for a Woods valve. This permits the Presta valve screw to be loosened and not be pushed down by the pump connector. The Presta valve screw will be pushed down only when the pressure in the pump exceeds the pressure in the tube. Since the connector permits the full extension of the Presta valve screw air is contained in the tube. The pump connection can be unscrewed without letting air out. There's a trick for removing a hose connection with a depressor pin that also has a check valve. Unscrew the hose from the pump but leave the connection on the tire valve. No air will escape because of the check valve in the hose. Next place place the finger tips of your right hand on the heel of your left hand. Place the hose's knurled nut between your fingers and the heel of your left hand. While holding the knurled nut tight, quickly move the left hand back and the right hand forward so that the tips of you left hand are even with the heel of your right hand. This motion will also unscrew the hose connection very quickly. Very little air will be lost. |

The reviews don't bode well for how well this design works. Most dual head designs press the pin but prevent air loss by sealing the connection. The sealing is usually accomplished with a lever actuated cam. The lever permits quick disconnect with minimal air loss. The seal for this head appears to be actuated by turning a screw. Turning screws to release an air seal isn't quick, as you discovered. |

Did I get that right? sigh You're missing the obvious, with a SV/PV adapter, at any time in the future, should the shop *only* stock SV or PV, then he's covered. He is now gender neutral! As such, he's also at liberty to buy any pump that seems to fit the pumping requirements without recourse to the needless worry of valve type, making him pump neutral as well. In addition, since the drilling of the rim, which affects the valve, which in turn affects the pump, now doesn't matter, he is rim neutral. Now, since he is rim neutral, a 26 or a 29'er is immaterial, in the purchase of the next bike, making him size neutral. All for the purchase of a simple adapter! phew Back to me Monkey 47... https://www.ginfoundry.com/gin/monkey-47-gin/ |
