Nice leather saddles -- how do they weather?
I bought a US$50 Specialized saddle today. Nice, padded, gel, racy looks,
"man's channel". But I got to wondering how this would weather the seasons (rain, freezing temps, etc.). Of course I'll use a "Safeway seat cover" when parking it on rainy days, but it will be parked outside (tarped) during winters. Will such a saddle survive more than 1 year? Maintenance suggestions? Thanks. |

Dont wet it with wax, its the lightest protective coating you want. |

Just don't try dragging it over a fence. I killed (ripped) a good one that way. I can still ride it but need a good way to fix the rip since it is an irritation when I do use it on seatpost a, B, or C. Bill Baka |

Dan, You are such a ****ing idiot it even causes me to pause. I was heaving the bike over an 8 foot chain link fence to ride a long since condemned roadway in the way out back country. It went about a mile and then I found out why the fence was there. The road had fallen into a river bypass about 20 feet down and some drunk driver/teenager would have surely killed themselves had a car been able to get on there. The bike slipped just as I almost had it over and the seat got it. Think before you speak, *MORON*!!!!! I explore, you seem to do nothing but call people names. One sorry excuse for a HOMO-Sapiens. Is your IQ negative or something? The seat was facing up until I lost my grip, dip! I challenge you to outdo me at anything besides verbal barbs. Bill Baka ( I will explore anything). I've had leather saddles on all four of my bikes for years with no real negative side effects due to weather. Two of the bikes are used as winter commuters experiencing quite a few forms of moisture (not to mention a sweaty butt in summer) to no real negative effect. I put some proofide (Brook's concoction) on them once or twice a year and that seems to do the trick. For my first leather saddle, I think I put too much conditioner on it causing it to get too soft. Don't over-do it with conditioner, but certainly add a bit each year. A well maintained (even if frequently wet) leather saddle should last you many years. SMH |
