A 84 year old Wal Mart employee? Working at Wal Mart at that age, that is sad.

You don't know that.
Plenty of people would rather work than not.

True, but the 70+ yo people that bagged my groceries during my last visit didn't look like they were having fun. It upset me.

I understand. And you may be right, we just don't know that.

I see a guy in his late 70s at coffee in the mornings (only
other guy in the place with a tie most days) who says he
enjoys his work and that he'd be lost without it. World's a
big place, more diverse than you might guess.

Just trying to wean himself off that Social Security addiction like
Michele Bachmann recommended. Retirement is socialism, you know!

Nothing gives a person a better feeling of fulfillment and self-worth
than cleaning Wal-Mart restrooms and re-stocking shelves part time!

FWIW, one friend of mine did retire, then decide that she'd like to
return to the workplace. And she says she knows it sounds weird, but
she always had an interest in marketing. So she took a job that had her
traveling to different retail stores, promoting her company's products.

She said Wal-Mart employees were the most miserable of all.
