So many people driving with mobile phones
Just wondered what the situation is on this. I thought it was illegal to drive whilst holding a mobile phone??? I seem to see far more people than ever before driving whilst on their mobile phone. I think I heard something about how using headsets wasn't necessarily safer than -*holding a mobile phone*- whilst driving??? When I'm on the road and I see someone with a phone whilst driving, I get distinctly nervous and angry. Any suggestion that they are as aware as when driving without a mobile phone is nonsense I'm afraid. -- dannyfrankszzz |

Guys, why are we having so many threads about people driving with mobile phones? It's /way/ off topic. a law that is not enforced at all is no law! Like "dogs fouling" £50 fine
signs --totally pointless. Like 20 mph area with local cagers barrelling through at 40 mph+.Like cagers ramping through on red lights, like police cyclists riding on pavements and using their mobiles and telling me ( on the road) to "watch it" or they'll fault me for some imagined "crime". although I haven't seen the local bike mounted police trying 159 mph on the motorway. By the way I reckon that if I were a bike mounted criminal on my velo, even at 69, I could easily outrun the heavy police bikes by a considerable margin. They are certainly not set up for speed chase -- I wonder if they would deploy that tyre deflating spiky thingy ( I have gone word blind at a critical moment of my diatribe!) against me. I just have had this vision of 20 police cyclists closing in for the "kill" I as career and weave along the cycle path disregarding all other cycle traffic! "Deploy the stinger!" ( remembered the name now) What fun! -- Trevor A Panther In South Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. www.tapan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk "vernon" wrote in message ups.com... dannyfrankszzz wrote: Just wondered what the situation is on this. I gather that The Irish Republic's law on mobile phones while driving came into force today, and the fine over there is 2000 Euro - now that's more like it! (Enforcement though is another matter) |

On the contrary, it is very relevant here, as cyclists are placed in great
danger by drivers more attentive to their mobile phones and not in full control of their vehicles. You can be prosecuted for something while on a bicycle which can effect
your car driving licence if you have one, so using a mobile phone while riding a bicycle would be just as illegal. Phil. Only in the USA. In the UK what you do while cycling has no effect on your driving license whatsoever. -- Tony "Anyone who conducts an argument by appealing to authority is not using his intelligence; he is just using his memory." - Leonardo da Vinci |
