blue moon
Saturday 30 January 2010
Find a body of water within striking distance with a good view of the rising sun or setting moon. Start at an appropriate time and ride through the night to get there at daybreak. Take some photos and let us know how to see them. Anyone else like the idea? Peter |

I don't know if I'd like to /do/ it, though. Ride all night? I'm getting too old and sensible for that kind of caper. But you've got me thinking about nearby bodies of water, and people who might be up for a night ride... -- John "Bicycling is the nearest approximation I know to the flight of birds. I'm going to leave at midnight but you could depart later if there's something closer or you ride faster. Peter |

There is a summer solstice ride from Martin Place, Sydney, starting at 2345 hr (21 December) and ending as the sun comes up at the beach. That should be nice. May have to think about the blue moon as well. regards, 20cents |

May have to think about the blue moon as well. regards, 20cents I like that idea. It sounds like the Dunwich Dynamo held each year on the June solstice. It starts in London and finishes at the beach at Dunwich at dawn. When I first heard about it there were hundreds of participants. Now there are thousands. Night riding is a lot of fun, especially in summer. The idea of the blue moon ride is to let anyone at any level ride to a nice place and enjoy the dawn. Last month I was out riding at about 4:30. The full moon was setting in front of me. As I crossed the Pioneer River I saw thousands of flying foxes streaming home after their night's foraging. The first light of dawn was breaking through behind me and illuminating their wings. One of those magic moments that's hard to forget. Pete |
