Which light? Cateye Triple Shot or Cygo-Lite DualCross 300 ?

I'm new to front bar headlights and i don't want to break the bank on
HID and go lower tech with the halogen so that leaves LED.

These two caught my eye as reasonable city and off road capable lights
putting out 20 W halogen equivalents.

The Dual cross is cheaper but seems to have many more features such as
battery monitor, flashing modes etc, but it doesn't come with a battery
holder to strap on the bike. I can get those cheap right?

So has anybody tried both or just one to give me some info. Thanks

Thanks

I can't answer your question. But that link doesn't work.

Try:

LED lights are certainly a good option, but I wouldn't write off
halogen just yet. For example, check out
http://www.bicyclelights.com
These are well made, reasonably-priced, VERY bright halogens. I've
been quite happy with mine. I run twin 15w lamps, and get about 1.5
hours of light before it starts to dim.

As far as LEDs, I think the Cateye is a better-quality product.

Good luck on your search.

What will you be using the light for? If you do rando, look at the
DiNotte. Just got one for $170, on sale, a real nifty light. Equal to a 15
watt halogen, but it's the smallest, lightest light you'll ever find. Uses
4 AA batteries, rechargeable comes with unit. But if you want you can use
just plain old AA alkaline batteries. Great for those 200+ mile road
events. Just bring more batteries with you to go the distance. But if
you're just doing the typical 1.5 hour commute in the dark, use the
rechargeables. The only negative is the light isn't focused, like most
LED's are. It's like a halogen, light is wasted lighting up trees etc.
Another good feature is it only takes seconds to put on or take off. It's
so small you can take it with you, when you park your bike.

These both look like new lights, which means you'll be one of the first
buyers for either. Do let the rest of us know how whichever one works
out for you, preferably after a few months' use.

Based on my own experience, I'd be going with the Cygolite. After about
a winter and a half of sporadic use, one of my old Cateye lights (the
old 430) started turning itself off occasionally. It had to be
something loose, but I never could find it. After two winters of much
harder use, I'll be going into my third with the replacement Cygolite.
I like the smaller size and better packaging on the lamp head. I think
I'm missing about 12 W of total (halogen) power with the Cygolite vs.
the Cateye, but the focus is better, and it's very rare I miss the extra
power. The Cateye was not well focused, and when I ran with both heads,
I usually aimed one high to attract cagers' attention.

Although I'm using old, outdated halogens, they work well enough for my
commute. They lack all the bells and whistles that attract you to the
new model, but they do light up the road!

i'm leaning toward the Cygolite but i have noticed that ebay brand new
prices for the cateye triple shot are the same or lower than some
online retailers for the Dualcross? It does have an extra 3 wat led
afterall but doesn't have the features as the dualcross. mmm decisions
decions.

Actually i know what's gunna happen. Soon everybody's going to release
5 watt led's which will blow the doors off HID's and my newly bought
dualcross or triple shot (

Just saw an ebay price of $198 + $13 shipping for a triple shot.
Tempting.

Also consider
http://www.blackburndesign.com/lights.html#systemx6

I was looking at lights recently & chose this one. Should arrive tomorrow
from the Ebay dealer where I got it for around $188 shipped. After winning
the auction I noticed that pricepoint.com has the same light for about the
same price. The Cateye looks nice, but I wanted the ability to dim & a flash
mode.

I looked up that Luxeon K2 & it looks like it offer almost the a little
less light output then the Luxeon III in these lights except it seems more
efficient & less expensive so these current crop of Luxeon lights won't
likely be eclipsed soon other then perhaps in run time & price.

g'day
youth
