"Sierraman" wrote in message Maybe batting against black pitchers I guess, unless the point would be having competition with likes of Reggie Jackson and Barry Bonds in his era. I think people are too quick to trash the old greats. Same with cycling, too many I talk to think Merckx would be just average today. I think one time there was a computer simulation with Ali and who the heck was the other guy?, Joe Louis maybe, or Rocky M. Different weight divisions but they just used calculations, but the math wasn't ran on Deep Blue, like with Kasparov. It was to find out who the greatest boxer was. It was Ali vs. Marciano They got together in a TV studio in Miami Beach to film sequences that could be put together to create the simulation. Marciano won the simulation with a KO in the 13th round, but never knew it because he died in a plane crash three weeks after the filming ended. |

"Amit" wrote in message he didn't have to play against black players. that helped him more than anything. plus his season and career HR record were broken long before the steroid era. Since Ruth's most recognized feats are his home runs, how would playing against black players change that? -better pitching -someone else might've been better than him Even in 1938 hank greenberg hit 58 homers, but teams wouldn't pitch to him after that, suposedly because they didn't want a jewish player to hold the HR record. Better pitching would have affected Josh Gibson, too. Same for Sadaharo Oh. Aaron played in 32% more games than Ruth, but only hit 6% more HRs Has anyone yet hit 60 or more HRs in 154 games in MLB? I'm disappointed in your arguments, Amit. |
