For long rides (PBP, randonneuring) its the Team Pro model. Thick heavy leather. Wider too. Long ride means 200 to 800 miles in half day to four days. Not little short afternoon skirmishes or measly centuries. |

I still have a 1977 Cinelli Unicanitor on my commuter. Great saddle. Leather doesn't like all the wet weather, and I was never a fan -- but saddles are a person choice. The big deal now is to get your butt measured and to buy a saddle that fits to the micron. To me, that's the big question. I have different saddles on every bike. Some are more comfortable than others. But ISTM shopping for a new one is a crap shoot. So, how to choose? Since we're all different down there, asking others' recommendations seems futile. -- - Frank Krygowski |

This classic shape, fits same as later Turbo: http://www.oldbici.it/product/cinell...-saddle-black/ Going through literally dozens of saddles the ones that appear to work the best for me presently a Selle Bassano Vuelta (extremely LARGE variations in fit) Prologo Scratch Pro In order to keep from getting too sore I have to change positions around pretty much. I've heard all about the leather saddles but they weigh in at two pounds plus and my bike is already heavy enough with the saddle pack and water bottle. I don't even carry two water bottles anymore because of how difficult some of these climbs are. Despite hearing of how people are riding up 32% climbs. http://theclimbingcyclist.com/gradie...-introduction/ I can ride up really steep stuff and there are roads in San Francisco that even young strong riders on superlights cannot climb. When you're climbing the rubbing of your thighs against a saddle is pretty bad so the saddles I use are very narrow on the nose and unfortunately that means that they are narrow at the half-way mark as well. |

Which saddles do you find most comfortable for long fast road rides? The best road saddle is the one that your butt likes the best. For me it was the Specialized Romin SL 130mm and the best Selle SMP Evolution 129mm. What I have come to know after decades of using different saddles a 1, I need a saddle that has a large center cut out; 2, the saddle must be narrow thru the middle section where I actual sit for most of the ride; 3, the rear of the saddle must also be on the narrow side enough for the sit bones to rest on when I am in a more upright riding position; and finally a little cushion, not a whole lot as this becomes a major compression issue on longer rides, short rides 25 miles and under soft cushion saddles are great over that distance and much longer consistently not so! As you can see much has to do on what type of riding you are doing; distance, speed,Â*Â* riding position on the saddle, bike type and setup, and very important sitting area body anatomy (how wide apart are you sitting area bones from the front to the rear). Just because you have narrow hips doesn't mean the sitting area bones are narrow and the opposite is also true wide hips don't mean wide sitting bones. Hope this helps and not make things more confusing. -- Ride fast, ride hard, ride for health and enjoyment...
