Yes, I passed through Portland twice in my life. Both times it was
raining :-)

I take it neither of you guys have ever been to Ireland?

I had a New Zealand friend who spent a couple of weeks, with his
Indonesian wife, on vacation in Ireland. He said that the most
noticeable thing was the number of pubs. She said that they had
visited during the rainy season :-)
