OT Ever heard of a map?
One might have thought that by being intelligent enough to get to Oxford
University, the new undergraduates might be able to work out how to get from A to B with the aid of an ingenious device known as a map. Apparently not. To navigate 500 yards by map is just too much for the nation's elite young adults. They need a bus to transport the little darlings. In my day as a student, live wasn't so cosy.. students today don't know they are born... See http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm...=news.quirkies "Oxford freshers take bus for 500 yard journey Oxford University's Student's Union is providing a bus for freshers so they don't get lost on a 500 yard journey between buildings. But the trip between the Examination Schools building in High Street and the Student Union offices in Bonn Square is three times the distance by coach because of a one-way system. If the coach is caught in traffic, a choir will be on hand at the back to ease any tensions, says the Daily Telegraph.Helena Puig Larrauri, union president, defended the coach trips during Freshers Fair. "We don't want the freshers to walk because we are worried they might get lost," she said. The fair is designed to inform new students about university clubs and societies and has previously been held at one location. This year a visit to the union offices, in new premises, is being included. The union is worried that if students stop to ask their way, people will not know where to send them. The decision has been criticised by Paul Sargent, the Oxford City Council member for Carfax. He said: "The pollution in the city centre appears to be rising as a result of bus use and our streets are already congested so I don't think this is the best way of getting students around."He said they should be guided on foot between the two sites.Story filed: 08:59 Wednesday 8th October 2003" Cheers, helen s (old fart rant over - normal service to be resumed) ~~~~~~~~~~ This is sent from a redundant email Mail sent to it is dumped My correct one can be gleaned from h*$el***$$n*$d$ot$**s**i$$m*$m$**on**$s$@*$$a**$*o l*$*.*$$c$om*$ by getting rid of the overdependence on money and fame ~~~~~~~~~~ |

The route between the SU offices and the Examinations School is hardly a complex one, involving, IIRC, two corners and three straight lines, though more complex routes are available for those students hoping to join OU Orienteering Society.
