The BBC explains road bikes
I quote, verbatim, from
URL:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/special_events/cycling/newsid_3039000/3039786.stm or URL:http://qurl.com/e4p1mm: "Road bikes These are the kind of bikes used in the Tour de France. Also known as racing bikes they are designed to go as fast as possible over a flat tarmac road. Everything is kept to a minimum to cut down on weight and reduce air resistance. This is called improving the aerodynamics. Road bikes have quite a lot of gears..." It goes on to say: "The bottom and the rest of the low gears are for climbing hills. The top and the other high gears are for descents..." But the best bit is: "A basic road bike starts from around £150 but if you want to use it to race you'll need to splash out at least double that." Well, you don't say. -- (Simon Brooke) http://www.jasmine.org.uk/~simon/ ;; For in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increaseth ;; knowledge increaseth sorrow.." - Ecclesiastes 1:18 |

Anyone want to tell Lance he's been paying over the odds for his for years? I was thinking the other way; "'Ere, Lance, give yer 'uunert and fifty squids for bike o' yours" |

Actually, I find this sort of stuff worrying - 'cause when I read about stuff I really do not know anything about I'm always worried that it's like the above - and I'm getting a really wrong picture... On the other hand - bbc website is generally pretty good methinks! Graham |

I know what you mean. I've seen so many errors in newspapers regarding things I know about, how can I believe what they say about things I know nothing of? Pete |

Your point being. . .
It's a basic site to give basic info for people who look for info on the Net because they don't have the wotsit to umm, oh you know. . . Anyone looking on the BBC site for info about bikes will have reached that particular page through an option page that gives an intro to three types of bikes ('road', Mountain and BMX). Look at the three pages and compare the info on each. |

The blurb on the price tage for the bottom of the range road bike in H*****ds is worth looking at for a chuckle as well. |

Why do they need to bump up and down kerbs? Use the wheelchair ramps ;-) Pete |
