Default I thought helmets stopped facial injuries?

According to the eminent and super-qualified Aussie researcher that Marie
posted recently.
Seems not.

PS - the comments mention "cage drivers" - do motorcyclists refer to car
drivers in this way as well?

You have completely misunderstood the significance of this story. This
was a head-on collision between a motorcyle and an HGV on an open road - a
combined closing speed of 100mph perhaps.

If he survived with "sustained serious facial injuries, although they are
not believed to be life threatening" then he would certainly have died
without a helmet. If you think that any other sensible conclusion can be
drawn, then you're a fool.

These comments sound very familiar.

skyewalker , Darlington says...

"When are these Bikers going to learn, we often travell along that road but
in the summer its full of Bikers speeding along on the wrong side of the
road.I feel sorry for the poor lorry driver.Bikers should be banned from
these roads."

And the rest, bikers always ride like cocks along that road when the sun

Wetwang? Bet they stopped at the chippie...

To be fair to bikers, it does just seem to be the weekend power rangers
who ride like they're in the SBK. 'Proper' bikers, round here anway,
always seem fine.

Next to the Black Swan?
Yes, it's a mecca for bikers every weekend.
Lovely part of the country.

And I don't think anyone with a brain cell would expect a visor to protect
against much more than flies and small stones. The actual helmet is many
times more protective than the visor, so no surprise that he "only" suffered
facial, rather than head, injuries.

Without a helmet in a head-on collision with a lorry, the contents of his
head would be decorating the road.

Yes, because "riding badly" or "driving badly" simply equals "speeding"
in your book, doesn't it?

You are a fool.

No-one has said that cycle helmets will always protect the face.

There are some accidents where they do.

Simple really.

Simple Simon Mason - who cycles at 25mph in 20mph limits just because the limits do not apply to cyclists.
This includes exceeding the speed limit past three schools. A total disregard for the well-being of vulnerable road users.
The actions of a true psycholist.

I think that *you* conclusion is absolutely spot on.
