To be fair, the view from the camera shortened the distance between the
car and bicycle so the headline seems rather over dramatic.

The track of the cyclist (that we can see), doesn't suggest any worry
about getting to the other side in time. Initially the pedestrian can be
seen to do the "is the driver going to stop" moment of hesitation. The
driver doesn't actually stop but keeps rolling in anticipation. (Nothing
wrong with that.)

But it suggests to me that Mr Cheerful's idea that the driver would have
behaved differently had the cyclist not been there and a opportunist
pedestrian had started to cross from the right instead looks rather
fanciful.
