Default re enamelling a 531 Frame

Hi,

I've inherited an old Harry Quinn cycle. It's one of my late grandad's
racers he used to use for time trialling. It's not been used for 7 or 8
years now. It's quite old-school - Weinman 730 brakes, non-indexed shifters
on the lower part of the frame, very light alloy wheels still with tubs, not
tyres and tubes on. It weighs Virtually nothing and is fantastic to ride.
It's got nothing on that it doesn't need as it was built for lightness - all
expensive stuff too I believe. It's seems to be all campag and suntour.

It's looking scruffy and I'd like to get it repainted. Years ago, I got my
frame renamelled up North - but it's 20 + years ago now.

Can anyone recommend someone who can do this down in the South East?

thanks!

Mike P

Why not do it yourself with one of these?

Fine if you also have an oven big enough to get your bike in.

You dont need an oven. I used a hot air gun to do my rear axle.

Oh, and I know someone who did a full car chassis with nothing more than
a couple of bar heaters.

Not in the SE, but Mercian Cycles in Derby offer refurbishing services
on any type of frame, not just their own.

Nice one, thanks for that. I can post it up to them.

Now, any ideas on how to remove a pair of suntour pedals that cost that much
so long ago, my grandad threadlocked them on and did them up *really* tight
to stop them being nicked? I simply can't move them. Yes, I am turning them
the right way :-)

heat the pedal eyes to 150 degrees C and try again

Why on earth would you paint an axle?

I know of Vaz in Hither Green and Colourtech in Dartford:

Vaz: 0208 852 0711

Colourtech: 01322 555549

The Colourtech finish on my Kona has been durable.

I'd start by running a kettle full of boiling water over the ends of the
cranks, then using a longer spanner while they're still hot.

Just about every time that I've noticed a frame's paintjob, and thought
'Now that's nice' the word Mercian was written on it.
