A MASSIVE rescue operation was launched after a cyclist catapulted over
a bridge and fell 30 feet into a river last night.

The woman was cycling down Huddersfield Road when she hit the curb and
was thrown over Elland Bridge.
Fire crews and paramedics were called at around 6.45pm to help the woman.
She was taken to hospital with injuries to her head, ribs and elbow.

I wonder how much that MASSIVE rescue cost the tax payer?

No doubt they can reclaim it from the cyclists insurance company?

Or from the van-driver who knocked her over the bridge?

What van driver?

"The woman was cycling down Huddersfield Road when she hit the curb and

I suppose it was a curb weapon?

I wonder how much that MASSIVE rescue cost the tax payer?

Almost as much as a similar rescue of a motorist?

But motorists pay a specific extra tax to use the roads, so no problem
there then.

No doubt they can reclaim it from the cyclists insurance company?

Just the same as an uninsured motorist, of which there are many.

About 3% of motorists are uninsured - which means 97% are.

Are 97% of cyclists insured?

So your point is exactly...?

The untrained, unlicensed, untested, uninsured cyclist has cost the
taxpayer money.

I do seem to remember some old fart moaning about how much a car crash
cost the taxpayer a while ago. When confronted with the facts he ran
away & hid.

I wonder who that could have been?

Does "Road Tax" cover the lifeboat service then?
