Default Cycling articles and buses

Like buses, you don't see a cycling article for ages and then all of a
sudden three come along at once. Journalists, sheep, shirley not?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4719015.stm
http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1535948,00.html
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/m.../24/do2404.xml

But now we know. Cycling is more dangerous than that very scary scary
thing that has occupied the front pages for weeks now. No wonder it
needs special protective equipment to participate.

I was going to post a reply to the BBC one, but "MIke, UK" got there
before me:

"Did you also know that analysis of the statistics shows that the more
people cycle, the safer it becomes on the roads. This is generally due
to the increased acceptance of road users that they need to be aware of
cyclists on the road."
Mike, UK

I also noted this morning, like several other respondents to that
piece, that the moment you get a few spots of rain, all those newborn
cyclists suddenly disappear... shame.

The true test is not the first bit of rain but the second. It's when
today they are all wishing they were on their bikes instead of being
crammed on the tube.

Heh!

This morning, I arrived in the office a little damp but feeling mostly
OK with the world, to find one of my colleagues sounding off to another
about how horrible her bus ride had been that morning. She took oen
look at me in my cycling gear and said" "God, your journey must have
been awful in this weather."

Yeah, I guess it /must/ have been... ;-)

Did you disabuse her of her error?

I've cycled to work in the pouring rain, and no matter how bad it is on the
road, I was always nice and dry in the office because I always had clean
dry clothes to change into. Something I never had as a tube commuter.
