Default Road Tires - Reviews ??

Are there any websites that compare and review the numerous Road Tires ?

Liggettism:
"It seems Team Phonek are using a bad tire, due to the number of flats"

This one is kind of old, but I believe this is the only *known* rolling
resistance test available:

I also recall Tour Magazine also having doing some sort of test too...

Try roadbikereview.com. Reports are biased and subjective, of course, but
you CAN distinguish trends pretty readily.

Huh? Conti makes some of the finest tires you will never see. Don't assume
the teams are using the same tires you can buy down at your LBS (though
occasionally they do but not likely in a TT).

I agree in part that Conti do make good tires. But, what tires are these
"teams" using that you "cannot buy down at your LBS"? Are you saying that
these "teams" are using tires made by someone other than Conti?

Or that Conti is supplying these "teams" with tires they're not going to
market or sell to the public? Please clarify.

No, these are normal Contis. They've been customized, though. The
rubber has been removed to save weight.

I put more stock in what I read on rec.bicycles.tech than roadbike review,
etc.

Really!? Where did you hear this? I don't believe Conti "removes" rubber
from their tire to save weight. Exactly which tires are these teams using
that they "remove" rubber from their tires? If you're referring to "pro"
cycling teams, then you must be referring to Cont's tubular tires. If so,
why wouldn't these "teams" just use Conti track tubular tires? Conti offers
3 levels of track tubular tires:

http://www.bikemine.com/Pages/Conti/...ctBlankSet.htm

Those are "lighter" than their normal "road" tubular tires because they have
"less rubber". However, these same track tubular tires are also more
susceptible to flats, and thus, not recommended for road use. Why would any
team use these tires outside of a track? So, what tires are you referring
to?
